Privacy Policy

Vanguard Fencing ("we", "us") is a fencing contractor servicing Melbourne's northern suburbs. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you can contact us about it.

1. What we collect

When you request a quote by phone, email or through a form on this website, we may collect:

• Contact details: your name, phone number and email address.
• Job details: the suburb and, if you give it, the postcode or address of the property, the type of fence or gate you're after, approximate length and height, timing, and anything you type into the message box.
• Photos: any photos you upload of the existing fence, boundary or site.
• Enquiry source information: the page you were on when you sent the form, the page you first landed on, and if you arrived from an online advertisement, the advertising click identifiers and campaign tags attached to that link (for example a Google Ads click ID, or "utm" campaign parameters). We also assign each enquiry a random reference number.
• Website usage information: see "Cookies, analytics and advertising" below.

You don't have to give us all of this. Name, phone number, suburb and the type of work are the minimum we need to quote. Everything else helps us give you a more accurate quote sooner.

2. Why we collect it

• To contact you about your enquiry, arrange a site measure and prepare a written quote.
• To carry out and invoice the work if you go ahead, and to honour our workmanship guarantee afterwards.
• To understand which of our advertising and website pages actually lead to enquiries, so we can spend our advertising budget sensibly. Enquiry source information is used only for this.
• To meet legal, tax and record-keeping obligations.

We don't sell your information, and we don't use it to send you marketing you haven't asked for. If we contact you, it's about your fence.

3. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run the business and the website. They only receive what they need to do their job:

• Netlify hosts this website and processes the quote forms. Form submissions (including uploaded photos) are stored in our Netlify account and emailed to us. Netlify is a US-based company, so this information may be stored outside Australia.
• Google provides the analytics and advertising tools described below. Google may process this information on servers outside Australia.
• Our email and accounting providers, to correspond with you and invoice completed work.
• Where required by law, or where you've asked us to (for example, sharing a quote with your neighbour for a dividing fence).

We don't publish your name, address or photos of your property without asking you first.

4. Cookies, analytics and advertising

This website uses Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads tags. These tools set cookies and collect information such as the pages you view, roughly where you are, the device and browser you use, how you reached the site, and whether you took an action such as sending a quote form or tapping a phone number. We use this to measure how the website performs and to work out which advertising brings in genuine enquiries.

Specifically:

• Conversion measurement. When you send a quote form, tap a phone or email link, or call us from a Google Ads forwarding number, that action may be reported to Google Ads so we can see which ads led to it.
• Enhanced conversions. When you send a quote form, the phone number and email address you entered may be converted into a one-way hashed (scrambled) form in your browser and sent to Google to improve the accuracy of that conversion measurement. Google uses the hashed data only to match the conversion against its own signed-in users, and does not receive your details in readable form from this process.
• Call tracking. If you reach the site from a Google ad, the phone number displayed may be a Google forwarding number that connects to our real number. Google reports the call's duration, start time and caller area code to us and to Google Ads. Calls are not recorded.
• Remarketing. Google Ads may use cookies to show our ads to people who have previously visited this site.

You can opt out of Google's personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com, opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on, and block or clear cookies in your browser settings. The website still works without cookies. Google's own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

5. How long we keep it

We keep quote enquiries for as long as needed to follow up, quote and, if you go ahead, complete and warrant the job. Records of completed work are kept for as long as Australian tax and business record-keeping rules require. Photos you upload are used for quoting and are deleted or archived with the job file. Analytics and advertising data is kept according to the retention settings in our Google accounts.

6. Security

This website is served over HTTPS. Form submissions are stored in access-controlled accounts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.

7. Access, correction and complaints

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we don't need to keep it. Email info@vanguardfencing.com.au or call 1300 914 010. We'll respond within a reasonable time.

If you have a complaint about how we've handled your information, contact us first and we'll do our best to sort it out. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

8. Changes

We'll update this page if our practices change. The date at the top tells you when it was last revised.
